Register Membership
The first question to ask yourself is 'Should I join the Register?'
If you already own a vintage Alvis, the answer is unequivocally
'Yes!' If you are looking for
such a car, or if you are just interested, then the answer is still an
emphatic affirmative. Indeed, a
significant number of existing members have no vintage Alvis but want to be
associated with the Register, attend meetings and take part in events as
passengers, navigators or spectators.
The vast majority of our 600 members, however, own one or more
eligible cars.

Owners of 1931-1933 16.95 and 19.82 cars should check eligibility with the
Register as many, especially 1932 and 1933 cars, belong to the new era of
production and are strictly outside the scope of the Register, although
their owners are very welcome to join!
The Inter-Register Club
To
provide a wide range of competitive events for their members, several old
car clubs (Alvis Register, Humber Register, STD Register, Austin 10 Driver's
Club, The Riley Register, Amilcar, 750 A7, Pre War A7, BMW, Crossley, FIAT,
Jowett and Singer) have formed the Inter-Register Club (IRC) which is
affiliated to the MSA. Each member club organises one event (typically a
treasure hunt, scatter rally or driving test) each year. In addition to
prizes given for individual performances in each event there is an annual
competition for individual champion driver and navigator and team
championships. All members of the Alvis Register are de facto members
of the IRC and are entitled to compete in IRC events. There is no better way
of enjoying your car in congenial company.

The Len Holbrook Award
Len was an Alvis Register member, a keen user of his 1928 SD 12/50 YX1083, a plastic surgeon by profession and proud of his Welsh heritage. Len and Meg settled happily in the North-West of England when his professional career brought him to Whiston Hospital. On his tragically early and sudden death in 1993, his friends were moved to set up an annual award in his memory. 17 years later, and now Meg too has passed on. She had matched the donations from their vintage car enthusiast friends to establish what was a substantial fund.
Those who knew Len never will forget him, and the recipients of the Award treasure permanent mementoes. The winners have been: Roy Heath (1994); Peter and Hilary Jelley (1995); Heather Milne-Taylor (1996); Owen Wyn Owen (1997); Roger McDonald (1998); Nicola Walker (1999); John Burnell (2000); Anne Blackham (2002); Mike Tomlin (2003); Ray Edge (2004); Tim Gresty (2005); David Bond and Julian Hindle (2006), and finally, Richard and Penny Prest (2008).
